What does faith and freedom give us?
Faith and freedom are two elements of our society which we as individuals desperately need today. We can have faith but if we do not have the freedoms we enjoy today our world would be totally different. You do not have to be religious in nature to have faith. Faith can be faith in you as an individual and have confidence that things will be fine.
Both of these characteristics of our society need to guide us in our daily lives. Ronald Reagan had a quote which we should all remember each and every day. He said:
“We believe faith and freedom must be our guiding stars, for they show us truth, they make us brave, give us hope, and leave us wiser than we were.”
The above quote was part of his State of the Union Address on February 6, 1985. In this short quote he stated a lot about our economy and our country. Our country was found on religious principles. Individuals came to this country searching for religious freedom and our Constitution by including the right to freedom of religion embodied the principles upon which this country was found.
As stated in Reagan’s quote the characteristics of faith and freedom show us truth. Our rights in the Constitution especially in the first ten amendments have been called the Bill of Rights. This portion of our Constitution identified the faith our founders had in this country and the freedoms they felt each individual deserves. Our freedoms may be being attacked sometimes in our judicial system but our faith that the right decisions will keep them intact.
Another aspect of the quote talked about making us brave. We have been through a number of wars and conflicts throughout our history. The faith and hope of the individuals fighting the battles kept them strong and brave for without them our freedoms as we know them may not be here for us to enjoy today.
Our country is built on the principles of faith and freedom and is the basis on which our country stands or should stand. Though we are facing tough times our faith for the future though it may be subdued we should never give up that the economy of our country will turn around. The freedom to believe in the faith we have as an individual gives us hope and makes us brave. The kind of faith we have as individuals whether it is of a religious nature or just having faith in ourselves and our country is something that can keep us strong and give us hope.
It appears that the voters have become wiser because with their faith and the freedom to think freely they better understand the issues than our elected politicians and know what needs to be done. In these tight economic times we must have faith for without it our lives would be drastically different. Our faith and the freedoms we enjoy have guided us throughout history and it is never more important than to let our faith and our freedoms guide us into the future. With these characteristics and hope our country will get through the tough times.
Ronald Reagan along with quotes from other Presidents were wiser beyond their years and ahead of their time but they are as valid today as they were when they were first made. We can learn much from past Presidents if we just look at the quotes which are part of their history. I have stated in the past we must learn from our history and the quotes of Presidents which are profound today as they were then presents an atmosphere which we need to create again. Granted the environment of today is different than it was when many of the Presidents were in office. We can regain this environment but only if we take the time to understand the words of many presidential quotes.
Some other examples of Presidential quotes or wives of Presidents to think about are provided below:
“Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people – your family, friends and co-workers and even strangers you meet along the way”.
Barbara Bush – Wife of President George Bush
The price of doing the same old thing is far higher than the price of change
Bill Clinton
For too long we've been told about "us" and "them." Each and every election we see a new slate of arguments and ads telling us that "they" are the problem, not "us." But there can be no "them" in America. There's only us.
Bill Clinton
Abraham Lincoln
Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prices is not America’s gift to the world; it is God’s gift to humanity.
George H Bush
The above quotes are only a small sample of the wisdom and knowledge of our founding fathers that had an insight into the country during their time but also play an important role in our future. Let us examine the words of the quotes above and reflect upon our lives and the future of our country.
