Treating Your Employees with Resspect
Respect is something we as individuals want from others and in business it is extremely important. While respect is normally something that must be earned it is something we all deserve in relation to our place of employment. Companies depend on their employees to show up and do their jobs and those that do deserve to be treated with respect. This is not to say that those who have issues with work do not deserve the same respect. To explain the statement in the last sentence we all deserve respect in one way or another. While we may not like some individuals we should respect them as individuals.
Businesses exist because of their employees for without them they would have no customers and no profit. What employees do every day for a company or organization affects the customer base. Employees interact with customers on a daily basis and as such the impression they provide to customers presents a picture whether they are happy working for the company. Treating employees with respect not only is the right thing to do but it makes employees feel appreciated.
Respecting employees is one way of keeping them happy in a sometimes stressful environment. Every job in a company is important from the lowest level up to the top. Those who either own a company or those who have invested in a company through stock purchases expect a company to do well in the marketplace. This is not always an easy thing to achieve but respecting employees impacts the whole operation of a company or business.
Respecting employees for who they are and the job they do for the company every day is the right thing to do. Today there is more competition rather than less with the economy as it is. Businesses are making every effort to get customers to visit their establishment and spend money when they have less than they had before in many cases. Individuals have lost their jobs and as such they have less to spend. The attitude of employees and the work they do play a large part in not only keeping the customers they have but it can go a long way in getting new ones. Businesses need happy employees and respecting them as individuals will go a long way in making that a reality. It is a known fact that happy employees perform better than those that are unhappy.
As I stated in the beginning everyone wants to be respected as an individual. Part of this is respecting the effort employees put forth in completing their assigned responsibilities. Many job functions are difficult and employees should be respected for their efforts through the actions of those above them. Granted there are times when mistakes are made this is part of being a human being. When mistakes are made management must look to themselves on whether they have done what they should have to ensure employees know what to do. The manner and tone of management when they confront employees about mistakes can make a big difference in how an employee reacts. Employees can be corrected without management giving the impression they have lost their respect. When employees feel they are not respected in the workplace it can affect their performance. This is something that management does not want to occur.
