The philosophy of we have always done it that way
In the past this phrase was used by many businesses in an effort to resist change but change today is expected if a company is to maintain or increase their market share. There are always or almost always going to be competition whether it is within our own boarders or from foreign countries. To be successful today businesses need to be innovative to stay ahead of their competition, if any, but even if they have no competition without innovative ideas a company can become stagnant.
The phrase we have always done it that way may not be extinct within our lifetime but the fact that we are a global economy increases the possibility that it will become extinct or its use will be greatly reduced. The technology of today and what we will have tomorrow will impact the way businesses communicate with their customers in fact it has already had an impact.
Some examples of this impact involve the way businesses communicate with their customers. In the past it was either a face to face communication or mail. Today that communication is generated through websites and email if customers so choose to contact companies in that fashion. In addition the option to communicate through any kind of phone device is also now available.
Another example of technology change is the increased opportunities for new businesses to be created. Businesses can now create a presence through the Internet with a website with all kinds of design options to make an organization look professional along with providing detailed product information. The Internet has also opened up new methods of marketing opportunities along with connecting with individuals and businesses which have some common interest. This allows individuals and businesses alike to stay informed and become aware of new sources of products or services.
In addition there are opportunities for individuals who want to write and get published. In the past individuals had to go through traditional publishers and today individuals can publish their work themselves. If it is articles there are many sites where they can be published and even earn money. If they are books there is the new digital technology which is fast changing the way traditional publishers operate. The new POD technology allows publishers to print books as they are sold and do not required to have a large inventory. This reduces costs not only for publishers but authors as well. The digital age has changed everything in how we communicate and get things done on a daily basis.
Change is inevitable and individuals and businesses alike need to be open to new ways of accomplishing the same tasks. New ideas or methods can come from new technology or within the employee base of companies. Changes in technology or suggestions from employees may be considered radical or even extreme but they should be explored rather than rejected outright. We as individuals or as a business can learn
The impact of the industrial revolution is felt today but the industrial revolution of the past has not disappeared it has only changed in the methods utilized to be more efficient whatever the tasks. This applies to individuals, businesses and even the government. Making the statement we have always done it that way sometimes can be a phrase used to resist change but change in the present world economy is happening every day.
New technological advances need to be evaluated whether they can be applied to us as individuals, businesses or if we are a part of government functions. Not all of these advances will apply across the board but many of them will.
