The impact of the FCC decision to regulate the Internet
Well the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has made the decision to regulate the Internet but not everyone is happy about it and in all probability there will be lawsuits. The vote was taken along party lines which should raise some questions. At this point it is not known what this decision involves and the impact whether it overall will be positive or negative. The Internet according to the FCC is a utility but it is not owned by any one individual or country. This technology is spread around the world and is not just in one country.
Government seems to be taking over more control over our lives each day and in the process causing havoc in most everything we do or use. The Internet is a technological wonder and can be considered the information highway of today and far into the future. The language used in making this decision is net neutrality and there are both individuals who feel this decision was the right one and those who feel it was a mistake.
Government in its infinite wisdom feels it needs to be involved in every aspect of our lives and the decisions we make for ourselves and our family. With any technological entity there are always going to be issues to some extent but they are not anything that cannot be resolved by society. It is not understood why this decision was made and we may never really know the true reason, if ever.
Transparency in these types of decisions and why they are made is sadly lacking as the details of this decision was not forthcoming prior to it being made. There are always in most cases going to be positive benefits of this kind of decision but they are also going to be negative ones. It important for the public to know the goal involved in the decision to regulate the Internet and how will it be measured to determine achieving it.
The resources of the government are stretched thin and taking on the Internet is a monumental task. Millions of individuals in this country use this technology and there may be individuals who have complaints about their experiences with certain websites but some individuals are not happy unless they are complaining about something. It is hoped that if lawsuits are filed and reports have indicated they will be that our judicial system will make the right decisions. There needs to be a comparison of the actions taken by the FCC and their authority as defined in the Constitution. If the Constitution has been violated with this action it is the duty of our judicial system to prohibit this action being taken. Any action by any entity of the federal government needs to be evaluated by our court system if lawsuits are generated. If no lawsuit is involved in executive departments or agencies decisions it is the responsibility of Congress to stand up not only for the people but the country.
