Is the political environment of today the same as it was when Scott Brown was elected?
There is no doubt that the increase in voter interest this election year is causing some concerns for some individuals who are up for re-election. The present approval rating for Congress overall is at what some identify as an all-time low. This does not mean that every individual has a low approval rating as to the decisions they have made and the activities in which they have participated. There are many fine individuals in Congress but they are not there in enough numbers to make a difference in the culture which now exists. The political culture is
The current political environment with all the scandals which have surfaced has created an increased interest in the actions or inactions of the federal government. Decisions being made or the lack of them at the Executive level and Congress may see a big change in the makeup of the legislative body of the federal government. There are many issues facing our country the latest of which is the flow of immigrants into our country.
Political activity of private citizens is on the increase and it may get more pronounced as the election of 2014 gets closer. It is a known fact that the political climate in Congress and the executive department is not one that can get much done. Both Congress and the President are not working together but even more so both legislative bodies are not working together. Legislation proposed by one body meets a stone wall for further action.
The path our country is on by many reports is not the path for a better America. Issues are being kicked down the road for others to resolve. In all fairness there are proposals which propose actions which will benefit the country and the citizens. It should not make a difference which party proposes a good solution for so many of the issues. Legislation from one body of Congress deserves to be put to a vote especially if it is a bi-partisan piece of legislation.
Today the actions by Congress are about making political points and exerting power over citizens which in some cases is not within their constitutional authority. The election of Scott Brown in a Democratic state shook up the political landscape. The same can take place in the coming election.
Our elected representatives and senators are supposed to be there to look for our interest and the country. What appears to be occurring in some cases is they are looking out for the interest of their political party. This is not be a condemnation on all our elected officials in Congress as there are many who want the right thing but they are met with resistance by their own political party. Today individuals in Congress need to take bold steps to address critical issues facing our country. Actions of the past which have a relationship to present situations that failed should be forgotten. Actions which properly addressed issues in earlier times and work need to be revisited. There is a saying that taking the same action year after year and expecting a different result is insanity.
It will be up to the voters this election year to send a message to Washington as they did with the election of Scott Brown. Do they want the path our country is on today to continue or do they want a change. The amount of political scandals and sometimes secretive agendas seem to be in the news on a regular basis. It will be up to the voters to decide if they are happy with the actions being taken and if not to make a decision to change the path on which we are now headed. Elected officials must take note of the current public sentiment. All officials must remember they work for us not us for them and given the political decisions being made this concept seems to have lost its way. Things need to change and it is up to those who vote to decide what kind of change they want through the individuals they elect or re-elect to Congress. Elected officials must honestly put themselves in the place of the citizens they represent and whether they would be happy about the decisions they have made.
