Connecting the spirit of the Alamo and today
Events of February and March 1836 marked a spirit that has never or should never be forgotten. The spirit and sacrifice of the individuals who fought against the Mexican Army which numbered in the thousands is a timeless event in the history of our country and changed our country forever. Connecting the events of the Alamo and today might seem to some to be difficult but the spirit which exemplified those individuals who made the sacrifice ignited a spirit which needs to be reborn in the manner in which it occurred.
There were undoubtedly tough moments during the battle of the Alamo but the resolve of the individuals who felt a need to make a stand changed the course of our country and what is now the state of Texas. The weeks of battle that kept the Mexican Army at bay are an example of the resolve of America. Our country has faced many battles and circumstances throughout our history but time and time again the resolve of the American spirit could not be denied.
Today we are somewhat a divided nation not in terms of literally being split apart but divided on our positions on issues which impact us not only as a country but the principles on which this country was found. The resolve of American did not start at the Alamo but we individuals banded together to write our Declaration of Independence. This was a strong stand at the time but it was a stand that changed our country forever.
Declaring our independence from England was the 1st step in creating a country with the principles which brought many from foreign lands to start a new life. It did not matter what the hardships were going to be it was a step to make a better life from the life they had in the country from which they were leaving. The principles embodied in the Constitution are a direct result of the tenacity and resolve those coming to our country exhibited.
The tenacity and resolve of those individuals which fought the Mexican Army while taking refuge at the Alamo resulted in a blow to a successful invasion of Texas by Santa Ana. This gave time for resources to accumulate to fight a weakened Mexican Army. Once Texas was free from Mexican control the march to statehood began. We should never forget those individuals who took a stand at the Alamo in 1836 and what they accomplished. It is a great example of what can be accomplished by Americans when we take a stand. We need to remember the resolve of these individuals and those who declared our independence when our country began and take a stand on the issues facing our country. We know what the issues are and the decisions which must be made to turn our economic situation around. Our elected officials from all levels of government must utilize the resolve we have seen by Americans in our history and take action on issues facing states and our country.
